Regular readers know that I love things like infographics and maps. Regular readers (and certainly everyone who knows me) know that I love food. This article, Chinese Cuisine Patterns Revealed By Food Network Analysis and its accompanying map combine the two.
The map is a computer representation of a computerized study seeking to determine the linkages between China’s various regional cuisines and whether it was/is climate (no) or geographical proximity (yes) that forms the linkage between the various subtypes of Chinese food. Maps like these only reinforce the by now old cliche that there is no “one China.”
I think it would be interesting to see a similar analysis/graphic of China’s regional cultures/mores and/or languages and then an overlay of all of these things.
What do you think?
