China Readings Per ImageThief

Posted in Recommended Reading

A reader sent me the following email this morning, apparently in response to my most recent post on Beijing Daze that mentioned how our blogroll is delibertly limited to the more “businessy” China blogs:

Dan,

I know how carefully you tend to your blogroll and I appreciate that, but it is too business-based for many of us. I tell people looking for readings on China to combine your blogroll with ImageThief’s blogroll (though he insists on not calling it a blogroll). Together, you two cover the waterfront. I also like how his adds in the tech sites.

Good idea, not-so-loyal reader.

Do check out ImageThief’s “reading list.“  It’s way cooler than our blogroll (his eschewing the word “blogroll” itself has to be worth some coolness points) and I reccomend it

UPDATE:  A reader has made the excellent suggestion of adding Danwei’s Model Workers list of blogs and websites to the list. I like that suggestion.

I’ll take your two and raise you one by adding in Danwei’s Model Workers list for 2011. Between your blogroll, Imagethief’s reading list and Danwei’s model workers, I think everyone gets covered. Here’s Danwei’s list: http://www.danwei.com/model-workers-2011/

All are great lists. Would be interesting to see what makes all three.

All three are great lists and they work standing alone or together. It really just depends on the sort of blog you are looking for. I think of your blog as for business. Imagethief and Danwei are much more focused on government, media and culture. As I would have expected, the bloglists all reflect the leanings of the blogs themselves. I read all three and tried to think of any blogs that were missing but none came to mind. With the influence that you have, I think these three lists are going to get passed around together and if there is something missing from them we should come up with it.

Well, my thanks to your not so not-so-loyal reader for nominating my not-so-blogroll! As part of my recent redesign and restoration project I looked back at my blogroll over the past six years, and especially the section I’ve always kept for essential China reads. Many good blogs have come and gone over the years (Talk Talk China…sigh). I may write something about that, apropos of other changes in the China online community. But since it was established, China Law Blog has been in the essential reading list non-stop. Long may it remain. (Also, agree on Danwei’s list, too. Especially because it includes Chinese language blogs.)
Thus endeth today’s mutual admiration society.
