China Food Products: Can't Live With 'Em, Can't Live Without 'Em.

Met with a food client today that imports about 85% of its product from Asia and nearly half that from China. Its sales are still growing.

"But I thought people were moving away from China product because of all the safety scares," I said to him. "They are," he told me, "but not nearly as fast as they are running to them because of their low price and because they do not even know they are from China."

"Well I am always really careful about that stuff," I boasted. "So what, you are still buying Chinese food products all the time," he said. "It makes up the ingredients in all sorts of foods. Most garlic in the US comes from China. Did you know that?"

"No, I didn't."

Oh.

But I doubt the food quality everywhere.
Now the pork from Ireland has big trouble. Andrew Wadge, the FSA's chief scientist,
said: "The risk to UK consumers
remains very low.
"This is because you would need to eat
large quantities of the contaminant chemical
over a longperiod oftime for there to
be anyrisk to your health."
Then, one or two kilos are no problem, just eat them,.? God...
I remembered a TV program showing that how sick cattle were treated in slaughterhouse.

there are the very famous cases of tainted food that cause some problems (as well they should), but its true, much of our food comes from China and that isn't changing anytime soon, like you said, its going up. Just like its hard to buy a non-made in china tshirt, its equally hard to find non made in china frozen shrimp or garlic or a number of other ingredients...

It's true most garlic consumed in the USA originates from China. Americans prefer garlic from China because it's soil free, symmetrical, has large consistently sized cloves and tastes great. Further, the largest seller of garlic in the USA is -- the California Garlic Growers. They first imported garlic from China over 25 years ago. And, since it is healthy, safe, superior and favored by USA consumers they continue to sell more China garlic than domestically grown garlic. Ask yourself this important question -- why would the California garlic growers sell a product to American consumers if it were unsafe in any way? The answer is that garlic from China is as safe as garlic grown in Callifornia. Call your national garlic company and ask them!

China is now tamping down on food prices, which is going to hurt the profit margins of those in the food business, which is going to cause them to try to cut costs, which is going to lead to even more poisonings.
