The fastest I have ever gone on ground was in the Shanghai Maglev. It really is pretty amazing to be going past cars on a highway as though the cars are standing still. My problem with the Maglev is that apparently it's not called "Maglev" by the locals, so the taxi drivers have no idea where you're trying to go when you say it. (Although that was my experience two years ago. Maybe now they recognize the term when uttered by confused foreigners.)
