How To Get From Airport To Town In Beijing

Posted by Dan on July 7, 2008 at 02:56 AM

There are two kinds of people. Those who enjoy figuring out exactly how to get from one place to another and those who just want to know how best to get from one place to the other. David Feng of CNReviews is of the far rarer first category and he just did a post, entitled, "Beijing Capital International Airport Express(way) Guide (PEK)," setting forth how to "get from A to B — in this case, from Beijing Airport into “the Jing”, as they say."

It is a very helpful post and since there will soon be a new express train (16-25 minutes from airport to CBD), I urge everyone who will be flying into Beijing Capital Airport to check it out.

I'm in China now and took a flight out of Beijing last week. The taxi driver asked if I wanted to try the newly-opened 2nd Airport Freeway and I said why not. Indeed, there was very little traffic on this new freeway in the middle of the way. I guess most people don't even know it.

It costed me 113 Yuan to get to T3 via the new 2nd Airport Freeway from XiDan, the well-known commericial street to the west of Tian'AnMen Square.

Today, I flew back to Beijing and this time the taxi driver went for the original Airport Freeway. There were much more traffic, as expected. It costs me 103 Yuan to get to WangfuJing from T3.

The Airport Express subway is not open yet as of today, neither is Line 10. They should be open in the second half of July.

congrats on the blog award
