China: Just Legal System Needed
Very interesting column in the International Herald Tribune by Jerome A. Cohen, widely considered a leading figure in Chinese law. The article is entitled "A just legal system" and Cohen's thesis is that though "China now has hundreds of thousands of able and increasingly well-trained legal specialists eager to build a credible legal system - one that can meet the demands of a more sophisticated economy and society," China still has a long way to go in legal reform.
It is Well worth the read.

I agree China does have a growing number of well-trained legal specialists but they are mostly working in and only interested in business law.

China has great potential with regard to professional services industry. With business booming in almost every industry, there is a considerable demand for well qualified legal experts.

It's going to be very interesting to see how China's legal sector develops the more they become part of the world's business community. I wonder whether they will go for full scale legal reform or not.
