China's Cnbloggercon, As Though You Were There
Received the following Blackberry (through AT&T) message from CLB's own Steve Dickinson (right after he finished speaking) regarding his attendance/presentation at cnbloggercon in Beijing this weekend:
Dan. Finished. Did my talk on blogger liability for defamation in comments. No one seemed to notice I was an American speaking Chinese. I was just part of the group. Got to meet many people doing great things, particularly in commercial blogging and in Facebook style social networking. Also met many people in the open source, Wikipedia and Creative Commons and crazy blogger crowd. I will do a series of blog posts on the experience. Jeremy Goldkorn was at the entire event. No one else we know. I did not see any Westerners at all except for journalists. Not even from the tech sector. Not one.
Also found this post" at John Kennedy's Chinese Bloggercon blog (h/t to Scobleizer), entitled, "Telecommunication Services and Internet Law," briefly summarizing Steve's session.
BlogNation is blogging on the conference and live blogged on it as well, here (via twitter).
8Asians, Thomas Crampton, and China Web 2.0 Review also have posts up on the conference and you can find photos here.
Rebecca MacKinnon from Rconversation blog attended and I expect she will be putting up some posts on the conference as well. I am also hoping Danwei will run something also.

I did not know who you are until last session, though I passed by you several times in these two days. But after the session, I cannot find you. It's a pity that we have not met there.

Steve, you haven't seen any Westerners? They must have blended in just as well as you did ;-)
(This is to say, I've seen at least one Westerner who was not a journalist.)
