Al Gore "Deems" China Irresponsible
Okay, so Al Gore never really said this, but he did write the forward to Accountability's 2007 Report of Responsible Competitveness [pdf] which was certainly not impressed with China's methods for achieving growth. (Hat tip to the Private Sector Development Blog, whose post on this is aptly entitled, "Not Exactly Beach Reading").
The report is massive and it is based primarily on each country's contributions towards combating climate change, enhancing labor standards, closing the gender gap, and reducing corruption. China came in 87th out of 108 countries, ahead of only Cambodia and Mongolia in its region.
What do you think?

Dan,
I remember when I watched "the Inconvenient truth", the visit of Al Gore in Beijing. You can see him in a Mercedes 500 SL sent by the Chinese authorities for his speech at Qinghua? Beida? University. It is one of the most polluting car on the street. I am sure, he would have chosen another car less polluting. By fact, I know he is driving an hybrid car in the US. I think Chinese government shall lead by example. I know I am preaching in the desert! Chinese officials need to show their social status and a big car is one of them!
