John Pomfret Speaking In Portland, OR, On October 19
I am a big fan of both John Pomfret and Portland, Oregon's NW China Council and I just learned they will be coming together on Thursday, October 19, for an evening of Chinese food and great talk. John Pomfret, a correspondent and former Beijing bureau chief for the Washington Post reporter and author of the widely acclaimed book, Chinese Lessons, will be speaking at 6:45 p.m.
The event starts at 6:00 pm in the Hi Hat Restaurant's Banquet Room, 11530 SW Pacific Hwy. The cost is only $35, which includes a seven course dinner. Registration closes on October 17.

Had the pleasure of seeing John Pomfret this past august or so speaking on C-span1 about his book Chinese Lessons. Extremely honest and intimate portrait. And pretty depressing....
Will the event be covered by c-span? or is this just a private thing?

Thanks for checking in.
You are not the first to comment on Pomfret's C-Span appearance. I wish I had seen it. Last time I looked, npr.org, had at least one long interview with Pomfret up on its site. You might want to check that out. I very much doubt C-Span will be at this event, but I really do not know. You might want to contact C-Span or NW China council to find out. It seems Pomfret is giving a lot of talks all over the United States so there should be many opportunities to see him in this country. Are you in the US?
