My Tentative China/Asian Itinerary -- Let's Meet!
On Wednesday, July 26, I am taking off on my bi-monthly Asian trip. As is nearly always the case, I will be spending my first night in Seoul, Korea. I leave Seoul, on Friday, July 28, for Shanghai, where I will stay until Sunday evening, July 30. I then fly to Qingdao where I will stay, probably, until the next day. On Monday, July 31, I will fly to Beijing, where I will stay through Thursday, August 3, at which time I will board a plane for Saigon, Vietnam, where I will be through either August 5 (in which case I will be in Seoul through August 7) or through August 7 (in which case I will go "directly" to Seattle).
My law and blog partner, Steve Dickinson will be with me for most of the China portion of the trip.
Steve and I are interested in meeting up with our loyal (or even not so loyal) readers in any and all of the cities listed above (Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Qingdao, Saigon) to talk China, China business, Vietnam, Vietnam business, Korea, Korea business, or whatever. Please contact us if you would like to meet with us. Drinks (including, but not limited to, green tea and Starbucks) will be on us.
The best way to contact us is by e-mail to firm@harrismoure.com.
I will post frequently to update my schedule.

Awww, no Tokyo stops? :(
Actually, I will be in Seoul September 15-18 for the first time since July of 2005. Really looking forward to my visit!
Anyway, look forward to crossing paths some day!

I wish I were going to Tokyo as I love Japan. I am always saying that IF there is reincarnation then I was at one time Japanese; I always feel right at home there.
Seoul has changed even just in the last year, and all for the better. Seoul is the new Tokyo.

Hectic schedule and jetlag ahead. Hope you have nice trip, should be nice weather in Qingdao.
I will be in China in two months, maybe will cross path with your Asian trips.

well my time in Hong Kong is almost up and I will be heading back to that warm midwest patch I call home (at least for the next 9 months or so)
It's good to have this blog. Working within a corner of the Chinese legal universe necessarily leads to a narrow--though extremely sharpened--perspective. It's good to step back every once in a while.

Katie --
Thanks for checking in. I used to do these big trips all the time in Russia, but they would always seem to get cut short with my getting stranded somewhere in the Gulag without heat. Ccmpared to Russia, China is a breeze. Yet, I wonder how Beijing and Saigon in August compare with Magadon in January.

Thanks for checking in. We do try to be everyone's port in the big storm.

Why don't we do this in Seattle every month or so? I feel left out...

Anywhere near Hong Kong, Guangzhou or Macau warrants a coffee or a Guinness on me...
Safe Journey!

Precious Slices:
You raise a good point. Seattle has the highly regarded Washington State China Relations Council, but that is pretty formal. Portland has the Northwest China Council, which meets in a Chinese restaurant just about every month (usually with a speaker) to talk China. Seattle could use something like that. Will you spearhead it? I can only imagine how difficult it is to keep something like that going. Lillian Tsai does it down in Portland and she deserves massive kudos for it.

Dan,
While Siberia winter could be quite harsh (especially without heat), the humidity and heat in southern China (and presumably in Vietnam) can also be challenging. Being a Canadian, I am a northern climate kind of gal and cannot stand hot/humid weather for extended period of time. But again I have never experienced Magadan in January.

Thanks for checking in.
I was originally going to include Shenzhen in the trip, but sanity prevailed. Now, though, it appears I will need to pass through HK to get to Saigon from Beijing and I may just spend the night there. If so, I will definitely give you a shout.

Thanks for checking in. I hate hot. I hate humid. And I hate cold. I grew up in Michigan and attended school in Iowa (which makes Michigan look warm in the winter and cool in the summer) and I had enough. Give me Seattle where it is always overcast and almost never hot nor cold.

I was thinking of something along the lines of a happy hour/coffee hour format. I'll call in my guanxi and see what I can do!

I'm based in Beijing but I live in Seattle. Unfortunately...as you enjoy your Asia tour I am enjoying my US "re-engerizing-see family-buy DVD/book" tour and will be in Seattle at least until mid-August. Perhaps we can have a Seattle based confab of local China bloggers at some point.

Hi:
Long time no check in. I remember last time when I responded to your thread on the China Innovation while traveling in Japan. It's wonderful that you people are gonna travel in china. I hope i could possibly have a chance to chat with you if at your convenience, to share our ideas about issues concerning China and its people, further more to exchange our opinions on issues of other aspects domestically as well as globally.
Now living and working in Shanghai in Xuhui district, I am available on weekends.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Guys, Great to meet you and hang out. If anyone is thinking of meeting Dan and Steve, let me lend my endorsement: a more pleasant, amusing and informative experience than chatting with these guys is hard to imagine. Thanks again!
