Good Wrap-Up On President Bush's Meeting With President Hu
The Moderate Voice Blog has a very nice "moderate" wrap-up of today's events surrounding President Bush's meeting with President Hu. The post is entitled, "Bush And China's President Meet But Hu Heckled" and it nicely pulls from a good smattering of media sources to conclude, moderately enough, that "relations [between China and the United States] may have improved - but there is still a lack of trust."

From Chinese view, this time the host could not be considered as successful. Many Chinese doubt that is a trick played by US gov.
In this kind of occasion, US security agencies should carefully check the backgroud of every attendees for safety and amenity purpose. The FLG lady is not a new one. She confronted previous president Jiang Zeming before. It is difficult to imagine that US gov does not know who she is.
Some may say that's because US is a place of freedom. But speeches can only be given in a correct place at correct time. It is obvious that this was not a correct time and place.
The translator for Mr. Bush really sucks. He did a woeful job. Most of Chinese believe so. He did not make any preparation for that task. I suggest US gov should get rid of him. He is simply not qualified for that position.

Though I am a firm believer in free speech, there is no excuse for allowing a heckler to scream for three minutes during a meeting between the Presidents of the United States and China.
I cannot even believe how poorly the U.S. handled the logistics of this meeting. The heckler. The bad translator. Using Taiwan's name to call out the PRC's national anthem. Do you think some of this should have been worked out beforehand?

China gov take the relationships between China and US very seriously. China really want to take the chance to improve the dialogue. That's why China gov sent a envoy to US to sign purchase deals with total of more than $16 billion to address the trade deficit issue. China gov forced to PC makers to install operating system to address the IP issue. Some big PC makers in China signed license contract with M$ recently. Actually China has be actively act against IP violation for a while. After reform, China gov has trying hard to avoid the confrontation with US.
We know all of these cannot make everyone compeletely happy. But all of these are sincerce guestures to show the good willings to US gov and Americans. That means China gov knows the issues and want to address American's concerns seriously and really want to have some solution. China gov did these not only for today, it is also for the future.
But after President Hu visited white house. Most of Chinese over the Internet thought Mr. Hu should not visit US this time if we knew the receiption. No matter China is US's friend or enemy, president Hu is US's guest. he came here at Mr. Bush's invitation. In chinese culture, guests are always important. Hosts always do their best to treat their guests. US has its own culture and we don't expect this. but the respect to guests is needed, let alone Mr. Hu is China's leader and anyone who can read Chinese know Mr. Hu gets support and respect from most of his 1.3 billion people.
From what happened in DC, Chinese can feel the strong anti-China sentiment in US gov.
I only hope the left events can make the visit successful.
